DOWNLOAD BUILD 703
There aren’t many new features, but under the hood this build is an order of magnitutde superior to build 528. We recommend everyone upgrades.
IMPORTANT: Before replacing your current version, we recommend the following steps:
1. Uninstall FlashBack or AX64, restart
2. Install Build 703
3. If you’re having troubles uninstalling – consider using a 3rd party uninstaller like our friends at: geekuninstall.com
Here are a list of some of the fixes and optimizations since Build 528:
- Fix FlashBack Build 693, hourly backups not working
- Fix Cannot uninstall AX64 Time Machine issue (see workaround below)
- Fix Error when enabling Native restore; results in an error -99967
- Make native (hot) restore default
- Fix: Hidden partitions not backing up, and thus, bare metal restore not working.
- Windows 10 compatibility
- Fix BSOD issue with Kaspersky
- Fix native app compatibility with with Bouncer & Secureaplujs
- Fix: Bug: ERROR_SHARING_VIOLATION on hot restore when SecureAPlus or Bouncer installed
- Fix: Uninstall issue on systems with attached SD readers. Uninstall stuck on calling flashback /uninstall
- Optimise: When changing drive letters check for the existing last file so only the drive letter changes and then a full backup is not required.
- Fix on mounting: Drive letter is not assigned.
- Fix: Backups are not seen within WinRE if the folder is not default (My Backups/AXTM)
- Optimize: Don’t need to do a backup at the end of the wizard unless a full backup is required

FlashBack Blog #1: System Restore VS FlashBack

What’s the difference between FlashBack and Windows System Restore (WSR)?
One of our most frequently asked questions from customers is:
“What’s the difference between FlashBack and Windows System Restore?”
The easiest way to answer this question is to look at each service respectively.
WINDOWS SYSTEM RESTORE HIGHLIHGTS
Very fast, quite convenient to use
- Convenient to use, very fast
- It is not a backup tool. It cannot protect the system from disk failures, cannot revert virus infections
- Recovers only some system files and registry. All the rest of the data on the drive, including user files are not protected
- Works in quite a unstable way. There are high chances that it won’t be able to recover the system back after a failure
- Erases its snapshots in an unpredictable manner. For example, all snapshots may vanish after a defragmentation operation
- No way to recover individual files or folders
FlashBack by Xeroweight highlights
- Free of all above mentioned limitations of WSR
- Is a full backup software protecting from all possible system failures.
- Backs up all the information on the drive – both system files and user data. FlashBack uses disk imaging technology.
- Restore speed is normally much higher (due to incremental restore technology), backup speed is slightly slower
- Provides efficient method to browse and retrieve single files/folders from the backups (using our backup browser)
Verdict:
Considering that Windows System Restore is not a backup tool, and doesn’t protect the user files, it cannot be considered as a replacement for FlashBack.

AX64 has always been about delivering super simple and super fast backup and restore to Windows users. Lightweight, fast and super easy to use.
Henceforth, AX64 will now be known as:
Going forward, our official domain will be Xeroweight.com. We will still maintain AX64.com, however in a short time it will simply redirect to Xeroweight.com.

II. BRAND NEW NAME FOR TIME MACHINE
Renaming ‘Time Machine’ was a challenge. It was super simple, moreover, it aptly reflected the ability to travel between previous points in time.
Yet we set out for a new name. It had to convey:
- Speed
- Jumping backwards in time
- Simplicity
Thus, the name was born:

Beta Release! Includes revamped Hot Restore
Dear users,
We are very pleased to make this new beta release of Time Machine, which is our largest leap technologically since the first release of our software.
The team is extremely pleased that Hot Restore is back as the default option and now working far more reliably. We have also improved support for the basics including GPT volumes, bare metal restores and restoring to different sized volumes including smaller and larger.
The following major issues are fixed including slow backup speeds, “Cannot save backup” and “Next volume failed to process” errors and various merge issues.
We are also introducing more then 2TB support, export a bootable backup so that it can be booted in Microsoft Hyper-V or VMWare Player and the Bulgarian language support.
Note: We recommend starting a new chain of backups with this build to make use of the enhanced features such as bare metal support, restoring to different sized disks and ability to export and be compatible with VMWARE. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
